Lying on the Parana River, Rosario is a city that seems permanently in the throes of strutting, sunning and smooching.
Sultry and sophisticated, at first glance, Rosario seems like an unlikely hometown for South America's favourite socialist. But sure enough, Che Guevara popped out of the ornate white house (now an insurance business) on the corner of Entre Rios and Urquiza streets.

Buenos Aires is deservedly known as the town for tango, but if you want to learn the dance of passion in an authentic and nonthreatening environment, head to Rosario. Here, near the riverfront, on Calle Corrientes 152, you'll find the cavernous Barrio de Tango. Every night, from 8.30pm onwards, they hold group tango classes. The teachers throw you right in the deep end - and by the end of the first half an hour you'll be hot-footing it around the dancefloor led by one of the regular attendees. Many of the regulars here are oldies - but hell are they goodies. These men sure know how to manouvre a seƱorita around a dancefloor. The odd left-footed tourist also makes an appearance here, as well as 14-year-old girls preparing for their big 'public' dance with their fathers at their 15th coming-of-age birthday parties.
A night of tango classes costs 10 pesos (around US$3). Check out www.sentimientotango.com.ar for more information.
