Situated on New South Wales' chilled-out north coast, Byron Bay is the place to get in touch with your inner nudist, stoner, surfie, yogi or bongo-banger.
A mecca for hippies and yuppies alike, this rainforest-flanked east coast resort town boasts 30 kilometres of sandy beach as its playground.

Try and coincide your visit to Byron Bay with the first Sunday of the month, when Byron Bay Community Market is in full swing. It's held right in town on the Butler Street Reserve and you'll find nearly 400 stalls amid marijuana haze. There's great handmade clothes, crafts, organic cosmetics, locally-grown produce and delicious food. I'm a market nut and I reckon the Byron market is one of the best - if not the best - in the world. At sunset, head down to the beach and swim with dolphins as the sun sinks over distant rainforested mountains.
