The only good thing to come out of Swindon is the road to Bristol!
The only thing Swindon is famous for is a big roundabout - nothing to be proud of!
Swindon is a great town. It has everything from a designer-outlet shopping retail village to bars/restaurants and other leisure amenities. It could really use a purpose-built concert venue (as big acts currently play at the Oasis leisure centre), but other than that, it's great!
I didn't know about the renovations. Maybe I should make an effort to check it out myself...
I must be honest, I haven't been there, but It sounds awful from what I've heard -- hence no plans to go there either.

Plans also include bringing back canals to the town centre.

Swindon rocks Its remewing itself and moving forward, Bristol sucks its full of yokels and run down ghettos (St Paul's)
Swindon is a disgrace to all towns. It is about a tenth the size of Bristol with about a tenth the class and a tenth the excitement. Basically its a one out of ten to Bristols 10 out of 10. Any other opinion is basically wrong.
its a great place. Don't believe a word against it. Beehive isn't as good as it used to be though
I spent a few years in this town so have some great memories and have known lots of great people there. All in all, I don’t think I’d recommend anyone to visit unless they have a particular reason to as there isn’t much going on and over the years town developers have done a pretty good job of destroying any kind of individuality – Apparently there used to be a beautiful canal running through the town centre and some smart wally decided concrete would be better. That pretty much sums up Swindon’s one step forward – two steps back attitude. The surrounding areas are cool such as Avebury and the ridgeway for walks. Also it’s well located for places like Bath, Oxford, Marlborough etc. Good motorway links to London too. Check out the Beehive public house
