What are the best hotels in France? The best restaurants in France? Also would what are the best things to do if you were going to spend a day or a week in France? It would be great if you could add a review and let our visitors know how they can best enjoy their time in this place. Your knowledge and experience could be really helpful to others!

Art, literature, fashion, philosophy, cuisine - which other country can claim such a rich heritage of the finer things in life?

From tortured intellectuals to virtuoso chefs, deep thinkers to heroic drinkers, the French are masters of many arts, and their reputation is a proud creature which feeds upon itself - and thrives.

Beyond the glittering lights of Paris, handsome, lively cities and pretty little villages punctuate the land's lush rolling landscapes, from the rugged Atlantic coastline to the sun-drenched shores of the Med.

France is more than just Paris, the Chateaux of the Loire and the Riviera ... although these regions should be visited on a first visit, preferably out of season. The real France is to be found off the beaten track, inland from the glitzy coast, among the hills and valleys of the South West: a great stretch of varied landscape running from the Dordogne down through the Lot and Tarn valleys to the Pyrenees. Here are the unspoilt villages, the two-hour lunch breaks, the copious meals of duck, foie gras, cassoulet and wild boar stew washed down with incomparable wines and armagnacs.
For visitors from overseas I recommend using a local agent for advice and bookings: try www.francealacarte.com who are based in Toulouse and have served me well in the past with their escorted tours.
